A Thank You Message

Good evening ladies-gentlemen too
A few brief words I'd like to share with you
In May ninety eight  when we moved here
We'd have our garden - the plans were clear
The reality made us want to be rebels
We had a suare of turf ( well weeds ) and some pebbles
We were so down hearted, we ranted and rave
But now, three years later, you can see we've been saved.

We started by getting quotes for work
For digging, materals and perpaps time to shirk
The results was pound sign and lots of zeros
So then we needed to find some heroes
They came in all shape - some tall some thin
Most of them fequent The Lady Westminster Inn
They did all sorts of things to raise this money
All in good heart and some very funny

Today we are here with slabs neatly laid
And all of the bills are - hopefully - paid
The troughs and baskets are all filled with flowers
Which always look good in sun and in showers
Now children can come and play ball and bat
Or come out and sit for a quiet chat
It's a quiet oasis in a large, busy city
With lots of flowers that all look pretty

The reason I've written these words in verse
Is to say a BIG thank you from the children and nurses
To John Wall and his pals from the Westminster pub
And others who've helped from various clubs
To say we appreciate what they've done
In allowing the children to play and have fun
To raise this kind of money is hard indeed
But this has been done with incredible speed

And now - you'll be glad - I've nearly finished
But our thanks to all can never diminish
All that is left now for me to say
Is I hope you enjoy your time here today
On behalf of fundraisers - those who are here
And  those who cannot be I fear
All that remains is to unvail the plaque
John could I hand over for you to do that
